Placemaking in Manchester

7 reasons to join us in September 2017

On the 7th and 8th of September, the Institute of Place Management is holding its conference at Manchester Metropolitan University.  The theme of the conference is Inclusive Placemaking and, in keeping with previous conferences, it has attracted the brightest and best academics and practitioners as well as inspiring presenters - such as Ethan Kent, from the Project for Public Spaces.  This year we are also holding special tracks - to support the growing communities of interest in place making from museums and other anchor institutions, Business Improvement Districts and place marketers.

We are also pleased to announce that a special issue of the Journal of Place Management and Development (JPMD) will be published containing the best papers from the conference. Only papers that are presented at the conference will be considered for publication.

As well as our two-day conference, this year we are adding a series of optional masterclasses to the programme.  Before the conference, on the 5th and 6th September, we will be running two days of hands-on placemaking.  This will cover theoretical and practical principles as well as offering you the opportunity to explore the relationship between placemaking and peacemaking through a walking tour of Manchester.

We have designed a programme to inspire, challenge and support you make better places.

After the conference, on the 11th - 14th September, we will be starting our postgraduate programme of Place Management and Leadership. This begins with a comprehensive masterclass in Place Management, Marketing and Branding.

Our taught postgraduate courses are delivered by internationally renowned experts, with the content based on their world-leading research, bringing you insight that you won't get anywhere else.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner, a curious novice, a scholar or a policymaker we hope you will join us.

Placemaking in Manchester is a unique opportunity to learn from people passionate about making better places in an amazing city.
